FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – A dozen cats were dumped in plastic tubs at a Parlier shelter.
Staff members at the Cat House on the Kings Cat Sanctuary came to work before dawn to discover 14 plastic tubs with 13 cats inside dumped at outside the doors.
Spokesperson Beth Caffrey says one of the bins included a momma with two babies; “Newborns that are only about 3 days old, there’s a wide age range from 2 days old up to probably 2-3 years old. They are not altered, not spayed or neutered – three of them are currently pregnant.”
It’s a crime to dump animals. “The problem is that it’s really difficult to prosecute.” – Cat House on the Kings Spokesperson Beth Caffrey.
Now, the shelter is having to deal with the sudden influx of cats, and their food and care – and spaying and neutering – which costs them around $45 dollars per animal. They already have 900 animals relying on donations to survive, including the pricey medical case of an injured cat needing an amputation. Just days earlier, the sanctuary sent out a Facebook plea for kitty food. Now, with kitten season coming up in the Spring, they are worried about all the mouths to feed. Some of the dumped animals may not be able to be rehomed – leaving an additional burden on their resources.
“We’re going to ask the community for help because we’re are not going to turn these animal out like they were left on the parking lot.
Caffrey says the Cathouse on the Kings has a wish list on Amazon where you can purchase food for the kitties or you can make monetary donations.
