FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims is in Washington, D.C., meeting with President Donald Trump, FBI Director James Comey, Homeland Security Secretary John Kelley, and a host of other federal leaders.
It comes amid concerns about deportation, and political contention over “sanctuary cities.”
Mims tells KMJ News, “Frontline law enforcement has their hands full, so we really look to ICE to do the job of actual immigration enforcement. Notwithstanding, once somebody gets arrested and put in jail, we are definitely going to work with Homeland Security and ICE, to make sure dangerous people are not released back into our community.”
“I think the message from the President was very heartfelt. There’s no doubt in my mind, when he says he’s going to do something, he means it; truly, that’s refreshing. There are no mixed messages, and I think that people now are coming to the realization, that he’s going to get done what he promised to get done,” Mims adds.
