Bill Would Require Caps be Hitched to Plastic Bottles

FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Citing environmental concerns over potentially harmful plastic bottles, Democratic California Assemblyman Mark Stone has introduced a new bill, which would alter their design.

If approved, it would ban the sale of plastic bottles, unless the cap is tied to the container.

Stone says bottle caps are among the most common litter found on beaches, which threatens wildlife.

However, his measure could draw staunch opposition from the well-funded beverage industry, which has put up big cash to oppose other proposed restrictions, including soda warning labels, and sugar drink taxes.
