New Scam Claims Victims Owe Thousands to “USB Recovery Department”

FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — A phony letter from the “USB Recovery Department” and the “Department of Enforcement,” claims recipients owe thousands of dollars, and threatens victims with intent to levy.

One woman tells the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office that the fraudulent document, had her correct date of birth, and Social Security number.

The fraudsters also used linen-style paper, which gives the illusion that it’s a court document, although it did not contain a court stamp.

Authorities say if you receive a similar letter, and do not believe that you have an outstanding debt, contact law enforcement for assistance.
