FRESNO, CA (KMJ) -A rally was held Wednesday, outside of Congressman Devin Nunes’ Clovis office.

Community Members were demanding Congressman Nunes “rescind Islamophobic, xenophobic and racist statement in support of President Donald Trump’s Executive Order on Refugees.

The order suspends for 90 days all immigration for citizens of seven predominantly Muslim countries.

Representative Nunes says he supports comprehensive immigration reform, and protestors were upset with the following statement by Nunes;  “In light of attempts by jihadist groups to infiltrate fighters into refugee flows to the West, along with Europe’s tragic experience coping with this problem, the Trump administration’s executive order on refugees is a common-sense security measure to prevent terror attacks on the homeland,” -Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Tulare, Chairman, House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.

KMJ News spoke to his office about the protest which was to take place at 4:00 outside his office, and they released this statement from Congressman Nunes:

“The main thing the executive order does is to create a three to four month pause on travelers and refugees from seven countries comprising six failed states and Iran, the world’s biggest state-sponsor of terrorism, so the U.S. government can check its security vetting procedures. Personally, I’d prefer to do this now rather than wait for a mass-casualty attack by foreign terror fighters, as we’ve seen in Europe, and then check our vetting procedures.”

Protestors lining the streets at Clovis and Third were later met by pro-Trump supporters outside of the Congressman’s Clovis location.
