FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — According to a new federal lawsuit filed in San Francisco, Wells Fargo illegally denied student loans to young immigrants, who were protected from deportation under a program created by the Obama Administration.
The students are said to have had the required Social Security numbers and other ID documents, but were rejected due to their citizenship status.
In addition to unspecified monetary damages, the lawsuit seeks a court order declaring the policy discriminatory, and mandating that loans be granted.
Wells Fargo has issued a statement, saying it’s disappointed that the plaintiffs decided to sue.
