FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Calling it “shocking,” Calif. State Controller Betty Yee says the Panoche Water District’s lack of spending oversight, has resulted in potentially unlawful activity.
Investigators say the Firebaugh-based district has given free housing to its employees, along with interest-free loans.
Agency credit cards were even used to purchased season tickets to Raiders and Oakland A’s games, in addition to Katy Perry concert tickets.
Controller Yee says her office is working on new accountability measures.
Panoche is not commenting on the review.
