Calif. Bill Would Add Third Gender Option to Driver Licenses

FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Under newly-proposed legislation, California driver licenses and birth certificates would have a third option for gender.

The measure’s authors, Democratic Senators Toni Atkins and Scott Wiener, say the nonbinary gender marker would be an expansion of LGBTQ rights.

The bill does not specify what the alternate gender marker would be.

However, other countries that have implemented similar policies,have used the letter “X,” along with “M” for male, and “F,” for female.
