(KMJ) 56 year old Walter Barker is jailed for allegedly assaulting a Fresno County Sheriffs Deputy.
The Sheriffs Department says Barker and other homeless people were sleeping in front of the Sisk Courthouse in downtown Fresno around 6am Friday morning.
When approached, Barker allegedly began arguing with the deputy and threatened to kill him.
After seeing Barker armed with a knife, the deputy drew his taser and ordered Barker to drop the weapon.
However, Barker took off running while still holding the knife. The deputy gave chase.
While doing so, Barker turned and threw the knife at the deputy and the blade hit the side of his head. The deputy deployed his Taser, but
missed Barker. As the deputy continued to give chase, he tripped and fell, injuring his shoulder. Barker continued to run down the street and
disappeared.
He was later arrested with the help of Fresno Police. Barker is facing charges of assault with a deadly weapon, assault on a peace officer, making threats and resisting arrest.
