FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — According to researchers at the National Cancer Institute, even consuming a consistent average of fewer than one cigarette per day over a lifetime, leads to 64 percent higher risk of early death.
Those who smoke between 1 and 10 cigarettes per day, face an 87 percent greater chance of dying prematurely.
However, the institute says the risk does decline, the earlier a smokers quits.
Tobacco use has been linked to several causes of early death, including respiratory disease, emphysema, and cardiovascular disease.
