Man Sentenced in Hate Crime Assault

FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – The Fresno County District Attorney’s office has announced that Daniel Wilson has been sentenced to four years in the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation for assaulting Amrik Singh Bal last December.

In october Wilson was found guilty of attacking Bal in a hate crime – that was captured on video.  It showed Wilson – along with a co-participant – beating Bal with their fists, and then hitting him with a car.  The assault sent a wave of fear throughout the local Sikh community because Bal was allegedly targeted for wearing a turban and robe. The attackers believed that he was “terrorist.” Bal was left unconscious on the roadway on Brunswick Avenue west of Highway 99.
