Yosemite National Park Looking “Lovely” With New Snowfall

FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – Recent rain in the Central Valley, means Yosemite National Park has been getting some snow. As of Wednesday, Yosemite still had about 3-4 inches of snow left on the ground, but starting to melt.

“Yosemite Valley is lovely right now,” said Yosemite Public Affairs Officer Jamie Richards. “Walking through Cooks Meadow, it’s still covered in snow. There’s ice cascading down the sides of Yosemite Falls – so it is a winter wonderland.”

Richards says it’s still too early for ice skating – and there’s not enough snow for snowshoeing and cross county skiing – but there’s still plenty to do. She suggests winter hiking.

“It is a lovely time to bundle up and come up, put on some good snow boots or put on some good hiking boots and hit the trails, ” said Richards.

Richards warns that if you’re heading to Yosemite, make sure you’re prepared for winter driving as well as the colder temperatures. Make sure you have tire chains in your vehicle just in case you need to use them – as she says the roads are icy.
