FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — PG&E has agreed to pay $85 million to school districts and cities affected by the closure of the Diablo Canyon nuclear plant, located in San Luis Obispo County.
The 2025 closure of severely outdated plant will result in a loss of property taxes.
The agreement includes other economic support and money for emergency planning; it could be worth nearly $150 million when it’s all said and done.
PG&E says Diablo Canyon — the state’s last operating nuclear plant — is no longer needed, given the energy generated by renewable sources.
