FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – Staging car accidents lands a Stockton man in prison.

Cristopher Sanchez-Becerra was sentenced to 21 months in behind bars for his role in a scheme to defraud insurance companies.

From October 2011 until August 2014, the 32 year-old Stockton man conspired with at least six other people, staging dozens of car accidents.

Sanchez-Becerra and his co-conspirators would submit false claims to insurance companies, offering to fix the vehicle at their own ring of auto repair shops – with shoddy work done and the defendant pocketing the difference from the claim.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security, and the California Department of Insurance’s Fraud Division conducted the investigation.

Sanchez-Becerra caused at least $210,000 in false insurance claims to be paid over the three year period.
