(KMJ) The Mayor of Lancaster says a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department sergeant who was murdered last week would be alive – if not – for Prop. 47.
According to the Associated Press, Lancaster Mayor R. Rex Parris told KNX radio before a memorial service for Sgt. Steven Owen on Thursday that he blamed Governor Brown’s plan to reduce the state prison population for his friend’s death. Owen was allegedly shot by parolee, 27 year old Trenton Lovell, during a burglary call. Lovell is now jailed and charged with murder.
The Governor’s spokesman said the Mayor’s “wild claims” are baseless. Gov. Brown attended the memorial service, but did not speak.
