FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Donald Trump sparked one of numerous controversies when he professed that, “Donald J. Trump is calling for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country’s representatives can figure out what is going on. According to Pew Research, among others, there is great hatred towards Americans by large segments of the Muslim population.”
Critics accused the Republican presidential candidate of bigotry.
Now, we get a look at the economic impact of imposing a ban on Muslims entering the U.S.
According to the Council on Foreign Relations, such a restriction would cost the U.S. economy $71 billion a year in travel, tourism, and spending on education.
Facing intense criticism from even those in his party, Trump has since backed away from a “complete shutdown,” and is now proposing a “extreme vetting,” if he’s elected.
