FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – The Measure X spending plan was approved Wednesday, October 12th, by the Fresno Unified Board of Education.

The 225 million bond will go before the voters, but it’s getting pushback from civic leaders who call it flawed.

A group spoke out in front of F.U.S.D. headquarters, saying the Measure X has a lack of transparency and too much ambiguity in its language.

Fresno Unified School District Trustee Brooke Ashjian says it’s a rushed plan, and the community needed to be more involved in the drafting process.

“Sanger doesn’t do it this way, Clovis certainly doesn’t do it this way but all of a sudden we’re doing it this way.” – Brooke Ashjian, Fresno Unified School District Trustee.

Jeff Sands, Regional Director of The California Charter School Association, says there are too many questions surrounding the plan.

“There are frankly just too many unknowns, unknown who’s included, how it’s being spent, and who benefits from this.”- Jeff Sands, CCSA Regional Director.

Superintendent Michael Hanson commented after the press conference held by the group, and said there was no secrecy, that board members do know what’s in the plan, and the community has had chances to comment.

“We have a billion dollars worth of need that our kids deserve to have great quality facilities, and this will get us about half the way there. Anybody who says we shouldn’t be doing that – seems to me they are very comfortable with a tale of two cities.” – Superintendent Michael Hanson.

The 225 million dollar Measure X goes in front of the voters on November 8th.
