FPD Chief Says Fair “Safest Place in Fresno”

FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – The Big Fresno Fair means plenty of people descending on the fairgrounds. How do police keep everyone safe?

Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer was at the fairgrounds’ opening day – as were plenty of Fresno Police officers – patrolling the grounds.

Chief Dyer says Fresno P.D. polices both the interior and the exterior of the fairgrounds. The number of officers working the fair depends on what day of the week it is and which concert is playing that night.

“We make sure that we have a visible presence both inside and outside of the fair,” said Dyer. “We have our special response team outside and we contract officers to work the inside. (The Big Fresno Fair is the) absolute safest place in town.”

Chief Dyer also said that Fresno P.D. will be monitoring social media for any threats made against the fair.

The Big Fresno Fair runs from October 5th-16th.
