Study: Farm Kids Less Likely to Suffer from Allergies, Asthma

FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Adults who grew up on a farm are less likely to deal with allergies, compared to those who grew up in the city.

According to a study published in the journal Thorax, farm kids are also less likely to suffer from asthma or hayfever.

Researchers are not exactly sure why the correlation exists, but believe that early exposure to air pollution, bugs, and physical activity may play a role.

They’ve also identified a link between lung strength and growing up on a farm, which appears to be stronger among women.
