Bullard High School was evacuated on Thursday afternoon after a bomb threat was called in to the school’s library before noon.
The students, staff and construction workers who are doing work on the school were all evacuated to the school’s track and football field.
Fresno Police were called to the school, and bomb-sniffing dogs searched the campus. Nothing threatening was found.
Fresno Police Lieutenant Joe Gomez says that the FBI was informed of the threat – and if they find out who placed the call – they’ll face a very serious felony charge.
Bullard High students were allowed to leave campus with a parent and go home early.
Fresno Unified released this statement after the evacuation:
As a safety precaution, Bullard High evacuated students to athletic fields at approximately 11:50 a.m. today as a result of a threatening call. Fresno Police was immediately called to investigate.
Due to the significant distraction this threat caused, Bullard High School dismissed students early only after local law enforcement completed a protective sweep of the entire campus. The Fresno Police Department then deemed the threat was not credible.
Parents and staff were notified and district transportation was onsite to collect students and run their normal bus routes. All campus activities have been cancelled for the remainder of the afternoon and evening.
Bullard High School is safe and will proceed as normal tomorrow. The District will continue to work with local law enforcement as they continue their investigation to identify the source of the call and will take appropriate action for anyone associated with making this threat.
