FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — AB 1066, if signed into law, would make overtime pay for California farmworkers kick in at 40 hours a week, instead of the current 60.
Supporters say it aims to promote equality.
However, several ag groups and Republican lawmakers rallied against the measure, arguing that doing so will burden growers, and result in job losses.
The measure is now on its way to the desk of Gov. Jerry Brown.
If it gets his signature, it would be phased in over a number of years, depending on the size of a farm.
