Physician-Assisted Suicide Law Withstands Legal Challenge

FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — A controversial law allowing terminally-ill patients to obtain life-ending drugs, has been in effect in the Golden State since June.

It aims to help those with 6 or fewer months to live, although it’s seen no shortage of criticism from those who believe it’s immoral.

A request made by a group of physicians in Riverside County had sought to suspend the law.

They argued that physician-assisted suicide makes it to easy to get rid of the elderly, whom some may deem a burden.

However, a judge has tossed it out, denying a motion to put the law on hold.

Both sides return to court in December.
