Fresno Police Adds More Officers In Swearing-In Ceremony

PD MAYOR RUDD

FRESNO (KMJ) – The Fresno Convention Center was the site for the Fresno Police Swearing-in & Promotions Ceremony on Monday, August 22nd.

The 34 new recruits along with three lateral officers, two cadets, and an accountant auditor were honored, and two sergeants were promoted to lieutenants.

Mayor Ashley Swearingen was there – it’s her last swearing in ceremony during her mayoral term. She prayed for the officers and sent a message of appreciation and thanks for their sacrifice.

Since July of 2015, the City of Fresno has been aggressively recruiting to fill vacant positions lost in the recession.

City Manager Bruce Rudd remarked to the audience of family that: “This marks the light of a long, dark journey.”

Chief Jerry Dyer acknowledged it takes a special type of person to be able to work long hours, night or day, be sued, spat on and encounter volatile situations all while wearing a body camera to record their every move – which he said is unlike most other professions.

Chief Dyer says he hopes we can get back to a time where officers are heroes again.
