FRESNO (KMJ) – Homeowners were evacuated in Northwest Fresno, Tuesday morning, due to a gas leak at a home.
Hazmat crews were called to the scene just after 11:00a.m., when a gas line was ruptured on the 700 block of East Gettysburg, near Wishon
“Fresno Fire crews encountered a gas line rupture that was hissing pretty good, so we sent the full response.”- Fresno Fire’s Hector Vasquez.
Around 20 households were evacuated, while the half-inch line was clamped by PG&E and about 45 minutes later, PG&E called ‘All clear.’
“Construction crews, at this point, did follow all proper procedures before they went to dig around the area. One of the messages we do want to get out -if you’re going to be digging at home or in the area, to call that 811 number before you dig so PG&E can properly mark the areas where they have their services going.” -Fresno Fire’s Hector Vasquez.
Over the past month, the Fresno Fire Department has been training with PG&E for these types of incidents.
