An Assault on CA’s New Gun Control Laws

KMJ) — Opponents of some of strictest gun laws in the nation, signed into law by Gov. Jerry Brown earlier this month, have filed a series of referendums, aiming to overturn them.

The half-dozen laws ban sales of semi-automatic rifles with magazines that can easily be detached with the push of a button, prohibit the possession of magazines that hold more than 10 rounds, in addition to requiring background checks for ammo sales.

Supporters of the referendums have until September 29, to gather nearly 366,000 valid signatures.

County election officials have 38 working days after that, to determine whether they can qualify for the ballot.

That means the referendums could carry over to the 2018 election, thereby suspending the laws, until voters weigh in.
