REEDLEY (KMJ) — A 14 year old girl was killed on the Kings River over the weekend. The victim has been identified as Cheinn Berry of Torrance.
Fresno County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to an area near Lindy’s Landing and Campground in Reedley, at around 3pm Saturday.
Their investigation established that the teenage girl was being towed behind a boat on an inner tube, and as the boat’s pilot made a turn the teenager was thrown from it and struck a tree on the shoreline.
Emergency personnel responded and took her by ambulance to a local hospital. She succumbed to her injuries and later passed away.
The pilot of the boat is a relative of the victim, but is not facing any criminal charges at this time. Both he and the victim are from Southern California. Deputies confirm that he has been interviewed and is being cooperative. The investigation remains ongoing.
