Investigation: Nearly 1k Law Enforcement Guns Lost, Stolen

FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — 944 guns that once belonged to law enforcement officers throughout the Golden State, have been lost, stolen, or can’t be accounted for, since 2010.

A new Bay Area News Group investigation, which looked into more than 240 local, state, and federal agencies.

The weapons include Glocks, Sig Sauers, Remingtons, and sniper rifles.

Some of the guns are said to have been stolen from behind car seats, as well as inside glove boxes, gym bags, dresser drawers, and in one case, atop a toilet paper dispenser, in a car dealership’s restroom.

Last year, a bullet from a federal agent’s gun stolen, by an illegal immigrant, who had been deported 5 times, killed a 32-year-old woman on a San Francisco pier.
