Chief Dyer Reviews Body Camera Video From Deadly OIS

DYER

FRESNO (KMJ) – Both the Chief of Fresno Police and the Fresno County District Attorney have reviewed the body camera video from this Saturday’s deadly officer involved shooting, where the suspect was killed by gunfire from the police officers.

“I have personally looked at the video, our detectives have, the District Attorney’s office has.” -Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer.

Chief Dyer says the 19 year-old suspect was seen on the tape from June 25th, not complying with police after he was pulled over in his truck.

Officers initially responded to a location in East Central Fresno – to investigate reports of a man walking around the area with a rifle, and while there – they spotted a black pick-up truck driving quickly away.

The vehicle was followed to Shields and Armstrong Avenue – where the driver got out but did not respond to requests to get on the ground.

“The officers continue to give verbal command to show his hands – both hands, and then he continues to walk rapidly toward them, and then he made a comment to the effect ‘I hate my f-ing life.'” -Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer.

Chief Dyer says the teen had his right hand concealed by his back, and when he pulled his hand from his back that’s when the two officers are seen on tape shooting him.

Chief Dyer says the video leaves them with more questions than answers.

“What is doesn’t do is tell us the ‘why.’ ‘Why did he behave in this manner, and why did he make this statement just before he was shot? “‘-Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer.
