FRESNO (KMJ) — Police are now actively searching for a man described as a “coward” by Chief Jerry Dyer, allegedly responsible for the death of a toddler.

The shooting put two others in the hospital, and took place in Central Fresno Tuesday night close to the intersection of First Street and Tulare Avenue. Audio from the shots fired was captured on Fresno PD’s ShotSpotter gunshot detection system.

“This individual walked up on what appeared to be a concrete pathway, he was wearing a black hoodie sweatshirt pulled down the strings on that hoodie to cover most of his face”, describes Chief Dyer.

“He then pulled out a handgun and fired multiple times”.

Those shots hit three people. 20 month old Rashad Halford Jr, 42 year old Willis Mucelroy, and 28 year old Rashad Halford Sr. The older two are recovering in the hospital, but the young boy was declared dead early Wednesday morning. The motive behind the act remains unknown.

“We are committed to bringing to justice this individual who is responsible for this. We are developing leads as we speak”.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Valley Crime Stoppers on 888-498-STOP. There is a $3000 reward for information leading to the arrest of a suspect.

“It’s hard to explain why a coward like this would do something in our city where they take the life of a 20 month old baby”.
