FRESNO (KMJ) — Staff at Fresno Chaffee Zoo are welcoming some recently born additions. There are six new red wolf pups: three males and three females. Alongside them four warthog piglets, and two red-ruffed lemurs.

The red wolf pups came into the world on May 2nd 2016, the first birth for mother Azalea. The second litter of pups for father Lincoln.

The warthog piglets were the second set for parents Zuko and Zara, with their first set born around two years previously in May 2014. The most recent additions came into the world on May 5th 2016.

Finally, the pair of red-ruffed lemur parents celebrated their fifth birth together on May 12th 2016. However, the newborn lemurs are yet to be on exhibit.

The delay between the birth and the news coming to light was because of their parent’s protectiveness; zoo staff have only just been able to confirm the births took place.

“We are thrilled about the recent births at the Zoo,” said Lyn Myers, general curator at Fresno Chaffee Zoo. “Red-ruffed lemurs are an endangered species, and red wolves are actually considered to be one of the most endangered animals in the world”.
