FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Nearly one-third of American adults say they never floss.

According to the National Health and Nutrition Examination survey, just over 37 percent report flossing less than daily, with the other 30 percent only flossing weekly.

Failure to floss is also higher among men, and those older than 44 years of age.

The study’s authors are calling for stronger patient education.

Flossing helps to prevent to the buildup of plaque, which over time turns into tarter, that can eat away at your teeth and gums.
