Sheriff Celebrating Tulare Co. Nine Year Olds For Their Lifesaving Actions

TULARE (KMJ) — A pair of nine year olds are among the five people in Tulare County who are being celebrated for their quick thinking and lifesaving actions.

They’re each receiving the ‘STAR Award’, ‘STAR’ standing for ‘Sheriff of Tulare (County) Action Recognition’.

“It’s recognizing the good citizens of Tulare County that have gotten involved in situations where they didn’t just stand idly by on the sidewalk”, says Sheriff Mike Boudreaux.

“The good citizens of Tulare County who have really gone above and beyond the call of duty of just living here.

“So what’s those ‘STAR’ awards represent”.

The list of five includes nine year olds Brenden Doyle and Lava Timpson, who remained calm after being inside a vehicle involved in a head on collision in which Brenden’s mother was severely injured.

“But she’s alive because of Brenden and Lava’s actions”, states Sheriff Boudreaux.

Also on the list is Tony Calvillo, who saw a vehicle veer off the highway, cut out one of the passengers, and helped a baby who wasn’t breathing. His actions are being credited as saving the lives of those involved in the crash.

Josefina Ramirez Uribe is being honored for assisting the victims of a gang related shooting, where she used her car horn to scare away the suspect and then proceeded to administer first aid to the victims.

And John Gong, for helping victims in a double fatal DUI collision. All are being honored with what the Sheriff’s Office describes as the prestigious ‘STAR’ Award.
