OIS Shooting Details Revealed From Fresno Police Body Cam

(KMJ) Fresno – Investigators have reviewed body camera worn by Fresno Police in Wednesday’s officer involved shooting to breakdown the events leading up to shots being fired.

Undercover officers were watching two suspicious men near Scotty’s Liquor store on Blackstone and Yale, on March 23rd.

When questioned, the two men took off running, and repeatedly ignored police orders to stop.

One of the men, who was armed, then ran down an alley, Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer says 34 year-old Raymond Gonzalez threw a backpack to the ground – which contained a pieces of an AR-15 weapon.

Chief Dyer says during the chase, Gonzalez pulled out an object: “Gonzalez suddenly turned toward the officers, had actually a black object in this hand, we don’t know what that is at this point, and the officer felt that a second weapon was being pulled from the waistband and the officer fired one round.

Gonzalez later died at CRMC.

Chief Dyer says the other suspect remains at large.

This is the fourth officer involved shooting for the Fresno Police Department, this year.
