FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Older motorists who have a history of falling, are 40 percent more likely to be involved in a traffic collision.

That’s according to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, which says falls limit elderly drivers’ ability to function behind the wheel.

A break or a fracture can impair one’s ability to steer or brake, and the fear or falling can lead to decreased physical activity, resulting in weaker muscles and reduced coordination.

However, researchers say low impact fitness programs or driver improvement courses, can be effective for older drivers, and extend their years on the road.
