FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Corinthian Colleges, a now-bankrupt system, operated several schools, including Heald College here in Fresno.

The federal and state governments cracked down on the for-profit system, for deceptive practices that targeted the poor.

California Attorney General Kamala Harris filed a lawsuit, aiming to help students left with large debts and useless degrees.

Now, there’s a judgement, totaling $1.1 billion; $820 million is restitution, with the rest being civil penalties.
