FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — The average cost of buying and owning a car in the U.S. over a period of 3 years is $11,227.
According to a new GOBankingsRates report, that includes insurance, fuel, maintenance, and registration fees.
However, here in California, it’s significantly higher, at over $14,450.
That’s more expensive than every other state, with the exception of Michigan, where the average expense of owning a car for 3 years is more than $15K.
If you’re looking to purchase a new ride, GOBankingRates says you should try to keep your payment down to about 15% of your income, given that common costs add up rather quickly.
