FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — California has some of the worst roads and highways in the nation, according to several studies, and potholes have become a multi-billion dollar problem for drivers.

Mark Headrick, a local insurance agent, tells KMJ News, “It could be tire damage, damage to the under side of the vehicle, or the car could bottom out and actually come in contact with the pavement.”

Your policy may cover the costly repairs, but as Headrick says, “Anytime your collision coverage is involved, whether it’s a solo accident, a pothole, or you’re damaging your vehicle by hitting something else, it’s going to come under your collision coverage. your deductible would also be taken into consideration on that.”

Putting safety first certainly applies when it comes to road hazards, such as potholes, “not necessarily that you can avoid them, but at least pay attention to them,” Headrick says.
