FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — They can’t buy booze or smokes, but they could get the right to vote.

New legislation calls for amending the California Constitution to allow 16- and 17-year-olds to cast ballots, in school district and community college board elections.

The measure is not first effort to boost civic engagement by brining in young Californians.
