FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — A town hall meeting is being called for December 29th to address the Sikh hate crime incident that took place on Saturday, December 27, 2015.
A 68-year-old Sikh man was hit by a vehicle and beaten while waiting for a ride to work.
Fresno Police have ruled it a hate crime – now a town hall meeting is called to address the situation and discuss solutions for mitigating the stigma surrounding Sikhism and ensure the entire community is kept safe.
Fresno County Supervisor Henry Perea will be there, along with other city and school leaders to show solidarity for the Sikh Community.”
“You’re talking about people who are very educated, very well to do in this community, whether they are in the AG community, in the medical community, education or business – they are a very integral part of Fresno County and they have to think if my child is dressed different than other children… does that mean my child is going to get hurt?” – Henry Perea, Fresno County Supervisor.
The Fresno Police Department is working with the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security to solve this case, offering a $7,000 reward for tips to the hate crime incident.
