FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Come January 1, 2016, a surcharge will be imposed on those purchasing prepaid wireless services.

Under a bill authored by outgoing Fresno Assemblyman Henry T. Perea, there’ll be a statewide minimum of 9.26 percent of the sale price.

The surcharge will go to the California Emergency Telephone Number Account, The California Public Utilities Commission, and certain local governments.
