FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — The Tricolored Blackbird is now a candidate for protection under the California Endangered Species Act, according to the Fish and Game Commission.
A bird that once seemed to be everywhere in the Central Valley, is now said to be experiencing an alarming drop in numbers.
A statewide survey in 2014 indicated a 44 percent dropped in Tricolored Blackbirds, compared to 2011.
Experts believe the loss of 90 percent of its historic habitat is likely the root cause.
