Two Rare Twisters Strike Denair

FRESNO (KMJ) — It was a weekend of wild weather around the Golden State, and it included reports of two tornadoes in Denair in northern California.

“We do know that we had one go through town”, says Anthony Bejaran with Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department, “but some of our 911 calls later after it initially went through we did get that there were multiple funnel clouds on the east side and south east side of town”.

He adds that there were no reported injuries and no reported fires after Sunday afternoons’ unusual weather event.

“I don’t have a number on the amount of homes that were damaged at this time, that’ll be something that we assess probably over the next couple of days”.

The National Weather Service confirmed that there were two tornados that struck the community around 2pm.

“We had our first reports that a tornado touched down at 1.55pm in Denair”, says meteorologist Travis Wilson.

“We also had another report of a touchdown at 2.08pm, just outside of Deniar”.

He says they’re sending someone there to determine how strong they were.

The state’s Office of Emergency Services says it’s a rare occurrence for Stanislaus County, but the agencies that responded did a fantastic job.
