Robbery Prompts Lockdown At Central High East

CRIME

November 6, 2015 (KMJ) – On Friday, at 1:05 PM, officers were dispatched to the central high east campus, 3535 N. Cornelia Ave., regarding a student that was just robbed.

When officers arrived on campus, they contacted the victim of the robbery in the front office. The victim was a male and a senior at the school. The victim just returned to campus from lunch. He parked his vehicle in the far west portion of the parking lot which is somewhat of an isolated area. The victim got out of his vehicle and as he started to walk to the school he was confronted by the suspect who pointed a handgun at him. The suspect demanded the victim’s gold necklace and his gold bracelet. The victim cooperated and handed his necklace to the suspect. The suspect grabbed the victims bracelet and ripped it off his wrist causing a minor laceration on the victims wrist. After committing the robbery, the suspect went through the parking lot gate and disappeared into the residential area located south of Dakota and Barcus avenues. No suspect vehicle was observed in the area.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic male, 18 to 20 years of age, 5’7″ in height, medium build, and he was last seen wearing a black hoodie sweatshirt, black sweat pants with a red stripe down the side, and the suspect had a mask covering his face.

At this juncture, this appears to be an isolated incident. There have been no similar crimes near this campus for several years now. The victim believes that the suspect was waiting for him in the parking lot prior to committing the robbery.

Several officers responded to the area to look for the suspect with negative results. Anyone in the community that can identify this robbery suspect is encouraged to call crimestoppers at 498 – STOP and if their information leads to an arrest they can receive a cash award and at the same time remain anonymous.

The school was on lockdown status for approximately 20 minutes immediately after the robbery was reported.
