(KMJ) –  Republican State Senator Andy Vidak announced Tuesday he is introducing legislation to rename the Veterans Home of California – Fresno to the “Dr. Charlie Waters Memorial Veterans’ Home.”

Waters served as a member of the United States Marine Corps from 1951 to 1958, including 13 months of combat in Korea.   After returning to the Central Valley, he served on numerous veterans and community boards, commissions and foundations, including the Fresno Marine Corps League, the Veterans Day Parade Committee, the Fresno Veterans Home Foundation, the American Legion and Toys for Tots.

Waters passed away in September at the age of 82.

In his news release about his push to name the Home after Waters, Senator Vidak said The Fresno Veterans Home was built, in large part, because of Charlie’s vision, passion and commitment.  He added naming it after him would be befitting tribute to a great man.

The Veterans Home of California – Fresno is a 300-bed, long-term care facility located on 30 acres. The Veterans Home opened in October 2013, and currently offers assisted-living level of care, skilled nursing, and has future plans to offer memory care.
