FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — The California Fair Political Practices Commission has approved a set of rules, aiming to curb illegal coordination between candidates and outside groups.

Such campaigns are often able to gain an unfair advantage.

Independent committees will not be allowed to use the same consultant, and groups may not be run by a former staffer for the candidate, or be funded by a candidate’s family member.

However, those skeptical say it may only shift more of the fundraising to candidates and parties.
