FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Having a high-stress career, primarily one which is demanding, but offers minimal personal control, may increase the risk for a stroke.

That’s according to researchers in China, who analyzed studies from several countries, which included nearly 140,000 people followed for up to 17 years.

Those with high-stress jobs had a 22% higher risk of having stroke; the risk for women was even higher, at 33%.

Experts say such positions often lead to unhealthy behaviors, such as smoking, poor eating habits, and a lack of exercise.
