FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Governor Jerry Brown has signed legislation, which requires California law enforcement to get a warrant, prior to reviewing a suspect’s e-mails and text messages.

Brown had previously vetoed a similar effort.

Supporters say for too long, digital privacy has been stuck in the Dark Ages, leaving personal data increasingly vulnerable to warrantless searches.
