FRESNO (KMJ) — The City of Fresno has honored the Pacific Coast League and National Champion Fresno Grizzlies on their astounding achievement.
A special ceremony held at the start of Thursday’s Fresno City Council meeting saw members of the team, management, and of course yellow furred mascot Parker, all applauded for their efforts.
It all took place in front of a cheering crowd, and General Manager Derek Franks has nothing but praise for everyone who supported the team.
“You guys are the best fans in baseball. I think that what we saw this year is that our fans show that Fresno is a strong baseball community that loves its baseball and Growlifornia is strong”.
“We’re really proud of our fans for creating the atmosphere and you know the buzz around the PCL. This is the truth, the buzz around the PCL and the buzz in El Paso – everybody came up to me and said you guys had electric crowds in Fresno for these post season games”.
With the achievement comes new silverware, and the Grizzlies already have somewhere set out.
“So we’ve got two new pieces of hardware in our new trophy case down at the ball park”, continues Franks. “They’re big and they’re heavy and they’re special. It’s just an amazing thing to have those here in Fresno”.
This was the first year the Grizzlies were affiliated with the Houston Astros, but it’s not expected this recognition will see the prime players leaving the valley.
“For every guy that goes up, there’s another good guy waiting to take his spot. That’s really why we may be on the brink of a dynasty here in Fresno”.
