Unemployment Rises in the Valley

FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — The Golden State’s unemployment rate fell to 6.2% in July, with nonfarm payroll jobs increasing by 80,600.

However, the picture wasn’t so bright here in the valley.

In Fresno, the July unemployment rate rose to 9.6%, with a loss of 2,200 jobs.

Madera, Tulare, Merced, and Kern counties also experienced higher rates.

The U.S. jobless rate was unchanged, at 5.3%.
