FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — A historic El Nino is nearly certain to be coming this winter, hopefully, providing some relief to the drought-stricken Golden State.

The National Weather Service says the consensus is unanimous among forecasters.

El Nino occurs when water temperatures in the Pacific rise above normal, by at least half a degree Celsius, for 3 consecutive months.

However, forecasters say there remains significant uncertainty, and a single event is unlikely to reverse 4 years of extreme drought conditions.
